Dogs in Uruguay

by Ben
(USA)

Oh no!
This may have just killed my thoughts of going there to possibly live....
I am not a dog lover WHATSOEVER, and could not handle dogs everywhere.
Seriously, how widespread is this?

Living in Montevideo and Dogs
by: Roy

Hi Ben, just came across your post. I am living in Montevideo now. Have been here for about 3 weeks and plan to live in Uruguay for several months.

As for your question about Dogs in Uruguay. I have to say that Yes, there are dogs everywhere. Many Uruguayans have dogs and you will see them walking on the streets on leashes. I do see some stray dogs, but primarily most of the dogs I see are well kept, clean and on leashes.

However, that being said, if you definately don't like dogs then I have to say that I don't think you will enjoy your time here.

Perhaps in some of the other cities in Uruguay the dogs population is less? Im not really sure yet. I was here 4 years ago and did not spend any time in the capital city of Montevideo. All my time was spend in Punta del Este and then north to Chuy which borders Brasil.

I saw more stray dogs there, but they were all extremely clean and friendly and didnt bother people. I was actually initially surprises because of the good condition of these animals, and could not believe that they were strays. Hope this helps. Saludos desde Pocitos, Montevideo Uruguay
